#CamdenInspireAwards2K19 — Catching up with the winners: Lost Boys Pizza.
December 5th marked the 3rd year of the annual #CamdenInspireAwards, taking place at none other than Collective Auction Rooms. The awards look to celebrate the value of independent and unique businesses within Camden and Euston, providing a way in which the local and further community are able to show appreciation to businesses within the area through a public vote. We asked you, the public, to pick your winners from a collection of 7 categories. There were over 60 businesses involved and more than 4000 votes!
In this #CamdenInspireAwards2k19 series, we catch up with the businesses you voted in as our winners…
Lost Boys Pizza were announced the winners of our ‘Most Delicious Food’ category. We caught up with them to find out a bit more on why they chose a ghoulish themed pizzeria, why Camden is the perfect place to call home and what it felt like to win an award in this years Camden Inspire Awards.
What is Lost Boys Pizza?
We are the world’s only Vampire Pizzeria, specialising in charcoal dough, 80’s music and good times.
What inspired the idea of a Gothic-themed pizza joint?
We wanted to open a pizza restaurant that was nostalgia driven from the 80’s but without the “Planet Hollywood cheesiness”, kinda like a comic book store. We new we wanted to do Pizza then we saw this black Pizza on a scouting trip and we tasted it and thought it would make a great special, then Alex’s wife said that we should specialise in ONLY doing black Pizza. We then made the decision to be more of a gothic, fun “vampire place”!
What was the general reaction to an all year-round gothic vibe pizzeria?
Our friends and family all thought we were mad! But we genuinely saw a gap in the market to be different.
There is no point trying to compete with the big boys, we needed to be different. Zig when everyone else is zagging.
What we have found is that people that come in LOVE it, Mostly because of the cult following that the movie has, but also because we provide amazing hospitality and our food is kick ass!
What can customers expect when they visit Lost Boys Pizza?
Warm hospitality, the best Pizza they’ve ever eaten and an experience they’ll never forget!
What has been the most challenging obstacle for Lost Boys Pizza?
Being an independent restaurant has more obstacles than most, we are self-funded so every decision is life or death, there should be more support from banks for restaurants and more incentives from the government, like reduced VAT and corporation tax.
How have you managed to get other people from Camden involved in the creation of Lost Boys?
We LOVE Camden to bits, when people come in they are always welcome to offer thoughts and insights to what we do. We have had a number of donations which are now part of the decoration, the stand out piece is a Freddie Kruger action figure from our friends at Monkeys emporium!
Aside from the ghoulish theme and creative interior, what do you think made Lost Boys Pizza stand out in this years awards?
We think its our people, our staff, they are the what makes us so different.
We work very hard on making a wonderful working environment that allows our team to be themselves whilst maintaining very high standards of hospitality, and it pays off!
